As the temperatures rise and the sun beckons us outdoors, it’s time to rethink our hair care routine. The summer months bring joy, but they can also wreak havoc on our hair. From the scorching sun to salty sea breezes and chlorine-filled pool dips, our locks face a barrage of challenges. But fear not! With the right care and a few simple tricks, you can keep your mane looking luscious all summer long.

1. Shield Your Strands from the Sun

Just like your skin, your hair needs protection from the sun’s harmful rays. UV radiation can damage the outer layer of your hair, leading to dryness, brittleness, and even color fading. To combat this, invest in a good quality hair sunscreen or UV protectant spray. Look for products specifically designed to shield your hair from UV damage without weighing it down or leaving a greasy residue. We recommend Davines’ SU Family for sun and aftersun care. The hair milk is a great sunscreen option for hair that an be applied before and during sun exposure no wet or dry hair to block UV rays and keep your hair from suffering the fading effects of the sun and the hair & body wash is free of harmful ingredients while providing moisture and nutrition to the hair and skin post sun exposure.

2. Avoid Regular Sunscreen in Your Hair

While slathering on sunscreen is a must for your skin, it’s a big no-no for your hair. The chemicals in regular sunscreen can strip your hair of its natural oils and leave it feeling greasy and heavy. Instead, opt for a sunscreen formulated specifically for hair, or wear a hat or scarf to protect your locks from the sun’s harsh rays. Keep hair tied up on top of the head to avoid transferring regular sunscreen to the ends of your hair-especially blonde hair and extensions as they tend to turn orangey or pinky when it gets exposed to sunscreen.

3. Keep Your Hair Hydrated

The summer heat can zap the moisture from your hair, leaving it dry and frizzy. To keep your locks hydrated, invest in a good quality hydrating shampoo and conditioner. Look for products infused with ingredients like coconut oil, shea butter, or argan oil, which help nourish and moisturize your hair from root to tip. Moroccanoil’s hydrating family and Davines’ Momo family are perfect for providing extra moisture and elasticity during hot months.

4. Dealing with Pool and Salt Water

Pool and salt water may be refreshing on a hot summer day, but they can wreak havoc on your hair. Chlorine in pool water can strip your hair of its natural oils, leaving it dry and brittle, while salt water can cause dehydration and frizz. To minimize damage, rinse your hair with fresh water before and after swimming to remove any chlorine or salt residue. You can also protect your hair by wearing a swim cap or applying a leave-in conditioner or hair oil before diving in.

5. Post-Swim Care

After a day of swimming, treat your hair to some extra TLC. Use a clarifying shampoo such as Davines’ Solu to remove any chlorine or salt buildup, followed by a deep conditioning treatment to replenish moisture and restore shine. If your hair is feeling particularly dry or damaged, consider using a hair mask once or twice a week to help repair and nourish your locks. ColorWOW’s Dream Filter spray is also an excellent option for removing chemical and mineral build up.

In conclusion, summer hair care is all about protection, hydration, and prevention. By following these simple tips and incorporating them into your daily routine, you can keep your hair looking healthy and beautiful all summer long. So go ahead, embrace the sunshine, and let your locks shine!
